Fashion Meets Culture - Alluring India 2026 Celebration

Alluring India 2026 certainly knew how to put on a show.

It was a pleasure to join fellow Brisbane City Councillors Sandy Landers, Sarah Hutton and Tracy Davis for a wonderful celebration of Indian fashion, music, culture and community as we marked India’s 80th Independence Day.

The event showcased an incredible array of traditional and contemporary fashion, with the runway bursting with colour, creativity and craftsmanship. Each design reflected the rich cultural heritage and evolving artistic expression that continue to make Indian fashion admired around the world.

While the fashion was a highlight, the event was about much more than what was on the runway. It was an opportunity to celebrate culture, connect with community and recognise the people, traditions and stories that contribute to Brisbane’s diverse and vibrant multicultural landscape.

A special highlight of the evening was hearing from Mrs Neetu M. Bhagotia, Consul General of India in Brisbane, as we reflected on 80 years of India’s independence and the enduring connections between our communities.

Of course, there was also a bit of fun along the way, with the Councillors taking to the runway and joining in the celebrations. It was a wonderful reminder that community events like this bring people together, create lasting memories and showcase the welcoming spirit that makes Brisbane such a special place.

Thank you to the Alluring India Brisbane 2026 Organising Committee for creating such a fantastic celebration and for bringing the community together to honour culture, connection and diversity.

Events like these highlight the strength of our multicultural city and the important role cultural celebrations play in fostering understanding, inclusion and community pride.

Now that's how you celebrate culture, community and 80 years of independence!
