More Than a Pub: Exploring Accommodation at Brisbane’s Suburban Pubs
Your local pub, but with a place to stay? It could be on the cards!
Brisbane is home to more than 60 pubs on larger sites, but only 15 currently offer accommodation. Brisbane City Council is proposing changes that could make it easier for suitable suburban pubs to add accommodation, opening the door to potentially hundreds of new rooms across the city.
The idea could create more options for friends and family wanting to stay close to home, bring more visitors through the doors of suburban businesses and support local jobs.
I recently dropped into Cutler’s Arms in Indooroopilly, formerly known as the Pig ’N’ Whistle, to chat with Venue Manager Nicholas about the proposal. And naturally, a couple of beers were poured along the way!
So, what was the verdict? According to Nicholas, it passes the pub test!
Making the most of existing suburban sites could present new opportunities for local businesses while helping Brisbane cater for a growing population and the people who come to visit.
But what do you think? Would you like to see more suburban pubs offering accommodation across Brisbane?
