Toowong Central - The revised proposal

For too long, this prominent site in the heart of Toowong has sat vacant.

Now, following Council and extensive community feedback, Verso has revised its plans for the Toowong Central project and the changes are significant.

The revised proposal now featuring a four-tower concept while still delivering more than 5,300sqm of publicly accessible open space, almost 30% of the site.

The tallest tower has been reduced from 55 storeys to 39 storeys.

The updated proposal includes:
✨ A greater mix of housing options, including build-to-rent, student accommodation and strata-titled apartments
🍽️ A new lifestyle and retail precinct on the corner of Sherwood Road and High Street
🏛️ Celebration of the heritage High Street dry cleaning building as a focal point for the precinct
🌳 A High Street upgrade, including street widening and significant tree planting
🚶 Better pedestrian connections through the site, linking the precinct with Toowong’s public transport network
🚌 Land dedicated to Council for a new bus slip lane on High Street to help improve traffic flow
🚗 Car parking that is now in keeping with Council’s planning code, with increased retail parking to support local businesses and customers

This revised proposal reflects the role of Council and community feedback in shaping better outcomes for Toowong, balancing more housing with improved public spaces, transport connections, local services and a stronger precinct for the future.

Toowong is one of Brisbane’s best-connected suburbs, and this project has the potential to reinvigorate the centre, support local businesses, and create a vibrant place for people to live, work, shop, dine and gather.

If approved, Verso has advised construction could start next year. 🏗️ A new heart for Toowong is one step closer.

I’ll continue to keep locals updated as this proposal progresses through Council’s assessment process.
